In the wake of recent attacks in Paris, Beirut, and Baghdad, the Institute for Diversity and Civic Life extends our sympathy and compassion to all those who lost loved ones through these senseless acts of violence. We stand in solidarity with those who fear for their safety as a result of these attacks. We know that creating inclusive diverse societies is especially hard work in the face of violence and extremism. We emphatically reject the notion that these events should cause us to be more fearful and exclude groups of people based on their religion, race, or national origin. And so we recommit ourselves to the work of building community across differences and cultivating understanding in the service of a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic society.
