Remembering Sept 11: A Curriculum Guide for Texas Public School Teachers

Next week marks the 16th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. In 2013, the Texas House of Representatives passed HB 1501, which requires Texas public schools to commemorate September 11 with a moment of silence and statement to remember and reflect upon the lives lost.

For adults, September 11 is a date of profound significance, seared in American hearts and minds. Yet, sixteen years later, the students of today have no memory of what transpired. How do we talk to young people about such a tragic and complex event and its impact on this country? In response, IDCL has created the following resource guides to help with commemorating and teaching about September 11 in elementary and secondary public school classrooms.
